Vintage style, sunshine and cream teas!

The big day came, the sun shone, and the vintage shoot was shot.

I have to begin with the hugest thank you to everyone involved for making it such a success.

A special mention has to go to Emma and Ella of Two Little Birds vintage boutique fame.  They styled the shoot, provided fabulous outfits and gorgeous props.  Their enthusiasm and support throughout the whole process was marvellous.  You are fabulous girls, honestly!

Then mentions have to go to (in no particular order), Lovelane Caravans, Memories on Film, Big Beautiful Bunting, Flowers by Clowance, Make up by Ella, Kerry Prynn hair stylist, The Big Fat Cake Company and… my parents and sister (why my family? Read on!)…

The day started a little misty but once that cleared we were treated to a most welcome day of sunshine.  Once the girls were made up by Make up by Ella, it was time for their locks to get trussed up.  On realising there was no electricity at Lovelane Caravans, hair stylist Kerry jumped into her car… I thought she’d had enough and given up on the day, but she quickly returned sporting a victorious smile… the lovely family at the local farm had agreed to let Kerry set up her curlers in their kitchen!  So, another thank you at this point to the local family farm Roskilly’s.

Girls made up and ready to rock, we had a brief fairy cake break – I’d roped my parents and sister in as caterers for the day, so we enjoyed regular deliveries of delicious homemade fayre to keep us sugar and energy fuelled throughout the shoot.

The shoots went well, we did two different looks consisting of hair/make-up and outfit changes.  Funny stories were told and a delicious tea party lunch was enjoyed by all.  Once the two looks were done ‘n’ dusted we managed to fit in a third ‘mini shoot’ where Dion donned her wedding dress, and Tonia her bridesmaid dress.

And then, it was a wrap!  A celebratory cream tea (homemade scones, thanks Mum!) and off we went.

So again… a huge thanks to everyone involved.  I look forward to working with you all again soon.

Now, onto the important point of the photos.  There were quite a few and I can’t post them all.  I’ve picked a few favourites but if enough people post comments I’ll add the link to the full set.  Here ya go…

Great pics, again! My favourite must be the two of the girls lying on the bed in the caravan – I bet they spent years doing that. I also love the ‘old fashioned’ hairstyles! More, please! xx

My goodness, how would you choose your favourites from these – they are so lovely!

Something kinda oooh… // cornwall wedding photographer

I’m a member of a flickr group called UK wedding photographers.  We share and critique photos, ask questions and witter about cameras to our hearts content without making husbands/wives suffer.  This is an awesome, supportive group and these guys are full of wit and wisdom.

They’ve recently launched a new website which lists approved UK wedding photographers, which is a pretty cool idea as it gives brides (and grooms!) a place to go to find good, reliable professional photographers.

The group runs a monthly photo competition and I mustered the courage to enter one of mine for May.  I disappeared off on my hols and thought nothing more of it.  Imagine my shock when I got back from my break, switched on my computer to catch up with the www, and found that I’d won!

So – big thanks to Helen and James, the subjects of my winning photo (more info on the UKWP website here).

Fantastic shot!

Messing about on the river // Cornwall portrait photography

When I received Ian’s email asking me to do a family shoot on the Helford I thought ‘oooh how lovely’.  Then he broke the news that there would be 34 of them.  I can’t lie, the trepidation set in a tad, simply on the basis of my knowledge of Cornish weather and it’s tendency to rain.  An indoor group shot of that size could be a challenge.  Ah well, no matter, Ian would just have to order some sunshine for the day.  And order sunshine he did!  After a few days of miserable weather running up to the shoot, the day arrived and we were treated to Cornwall at it’s glorious sunshiney best.

The family were all really lovely, laid back types.  The group shots went without a hitch and as the tide rose we finished with a few snaps by the water.

Thank you to Ian, Janice and family for a most fun afternoon!

What a fun family – and beautifully captured – great work!

And the winner is….. // vintage photo shoot competition

Wow.  A HUGE thank you to everyone who entered the vintage photo shoot competition.  We had loads of fab entries, and I can honestly say that every single email that popped into my inbox was read with a smile on my face and a lump in my throat in equal measure.  It was so heart-warming to read about friendships, love and laughter.

Of course, your numerous fabulous entries made the job of choosing a winner really quite a challenge.    It was after much deliberation that Emma and Ella (Two Little Birds) and I came to a decision.

So, I guess you’d prefer me to stop babbling, and get on with the announcement?  Will do.  Before I do though, I just want to say a seriously big thank you to everyone who entered.  I loved reading every one of your stories and only wish we could have picked you all – you have no idea how hard it was to choose just one winner.  I wish you all fabulous wedding days and very happy future:)

Right then, here goes…

AND THE WINNERS ARE….

Dion and Tonia!

Dion’s entry was for her and her sister Tonia.  Their heartwarming story described their sisterly friendship.  The sense of warmth and closeness radiated through Dion’s typed word as she told of  falling in mud and climbing trees, crying over boys and exam stress right through to a wedding; they have been through everything together.

Dion explained that she got married last September; a vintage tea party themed wedding, organised on a shoestring budget.  Tonia played a huge part in helping with the celebrations going to amazing lengths to make sure that Dion’s wedding was special.  Sadly though the limited funds meant no professional photographer and they got only got a couple of snaps of them together on the big day.

I hope that winning this competition will give Dion and Tonia some lovely photos of them together in the vintage theme they both love.  And…perhaps we’ll even be able to persuade them to don their wedding frocks again!

Well done girls:)

double trouble… // portrait photography cornwall

…except, William and Maisie, twins aged almost 19 months, are far from trouble – quite the opposite, they’re a delight to be around.

I’m lucky enough to call their Mum, Mel, one of my best friends, so I spend lots of time with this pair and they’re fab.  William is thoughtful and sensitive, with a penchant for opening and closing (mainly doors and gates).  Maisie likes to file and organise and is a total chatterbox – her vocabulary is seriously impressive!

Most Fridays, Myself, Mel and several other friends get together for tea and cake and chatter.  I’m the first to admit that I’m no domestic goddess, so I rarely host our gatherings or offer up baked goods.  With this in mind, I figure the least I can do to repay my lovely girls for their wonderful company and delicious cakes, is to take a few snaps for their family albums from time to time…
