Come Dine With Me makes me hungry.

I’m a HUGE CDWM fan.   Not that I’d ever go on it, I couldn’t deal with sarcastic-narrator-man jibbering on about me, but I just love watching it.  To The Husband’s dismay I even have it on series link, clogging up the sky+ with repeats of what is essentially a quite random culinary competition.

Anyway, watching it ALWAYS makes me hungry.  Not when the food is bad, obviously, but sometimes they just make such delicious things.  I’m sat here now doing some DSP admin and am watching re-runs.  There’s a woman cooking a caramelised onion and goats cheese tartlet which looks awesome.  Goats cheese is one of my favourite things ever.  Now I can’t stop thinking about an Italian mezze style platter that my sister and I shared a while ago…  Mmmmmm…

Gorgeous Girlie // kids portrait photography in Cornwall

Yesterday morning I braved the rain and headed off to take photos of the very beautiful Florence.  I am lucky enough to have done photo shoots with her as a baby, at 6 months, and now again at 1 year.  To see her grow from small baby to a happy, smiley toddler has been a pleasure, and I know her parents are rightfully proud.

Unfortunately the persistent rain meant we didn’t get to venture outside, but instead we had fun doing jigsaws, reading books and dancing to Lady GaGa!  Here’s a handful of my faves from the shoot…

NY themed wedding {second shooting for Rosie Parsons}

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to go along to a fabulous New York themed wedding as second shooter to the brilliant Rosie Parsons.  A huge thanks to Rosie for inviting me to join her at this beautiful wedding.

The venue was Manadon House in Plymouth, a really stunning home run by a lovely family with a gorgeous maine coon puss who kept us entertained on our break (along with the Memories on Film guys!).

The day itself went without a hitch despite the threat of rain and the ceremony took place outside as planned.  Here’s a small selection of my photos from the day…

These are fabulous photos Donna, I’d be over the moon if I were the bride! Well done!

Love a bit of retro?

I’m a big fan of retro, and I LOVE polaroids.  So imagine my delight when I stumbled across Poladroid.  This snazzy little free download lets you drag and drop photos from your computer into your ‘polaroid camera’ on your desktop.  It ejects your photo and takes time to develop, allowing you to grab a copy of it at any stage.

Sooo cool.

Err, just in case, am adding a disclaimer along the lines of: this is a third party piece of software, I’m just telling you I love it, I can’t be held responsible for it, or you, and that kind of stuff.  Jus’ sayin’.

That is SOOOOOOO cool! Love it!

Awesomeness

Is that even a word?  Dunno, but I’m using it regardless.

On the weekend, I had THE best time second shooting for the very brilliant Rosie Parsons.  Rosie is a photographer whose work I have admired for some time, so I was bowled over when I had the opportunity to go along with her and photograph a very beautiful wedding in Plymouth.

What an awesome day.  A very long, exhausting but awesome day.

Anyone who ever questions the cost of wedding photography… seriously, don’t.  Forgetting the boring stuff like the cost of running a business, insurance, equipment, travel, admin, time shooting, post processing etc., there is the mightily heyooooge issue of the responsibility weighing on your shoulders.  The bride and groom get this day once and once only.  YOU are being paid as a professional to capture it forevermore.  It is your job to imprint whether on film or in pixels, the key moments of their wedding day – bride walking up the aisle, exchange of rings, first kiss, speeches, and not just in a technical way, but a way which evokes the atmosphere of the day.  To be able to instill emotion and feeling and love and beauty.  Really, it’s no mean feat.

So, if you’re on a hunt for a wedding photographer, and you value having precious images of your big day in years to come, don’t skimp on your wedding photographer.  Choose someone that you have a connection with and who will do you proud because once those just-lived-it memories of the day have gone, the photos are what you will look back on, and you can’t put a price on that.
